Rorschzch test - SC 1000

by mehravikas » Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:12 pm
The Rorschzch test is gaining new respect as a diagnostic tool because it takes only one hour to expose behavior and thought processes that may be unlikely to emerge in other procedures or weeks of ordinary interviewing.

(A) that may be unlikely to emerge in other procedures or weeks of ordinary interviewing
(B) whose emergence is unlikely in other procedures or weeks of ordinary interviews
(C) that might not emerge in other procedures or in weeks of ordinary interviews
(D) that may not emerge under other procedures or weeks of ordinary interviews
(E) unlikely not to emerge during weeks of ordinary interviewing or in other procedures

OA: C
Question:
might is the past tense of may, the sentence is in present tense. How can C be correct?
C is the only one that preserves the parallel "in other procedures or in weeks of ordinary interviews"

What about the may / might usage?

IMO: C as well..
After reading the sentence I eliminate B and E
out of A,C, and D..I eliminate A because of lack of parallelism.

fight was in between C and D.
now vertically scanning both, I found there are two differences:
may/might -> D should be the answer.
under/in -> C should be the answer.

i found that UNDER is wrong,
..that may not emerge under weeks of interview..
better will be...
..that may not emerge in weeks of interview..

'emerge in' sounds better to me..
so I choose C.

might has two uses: one in the past tense; in the present, it reflects 'more doubtfulness'

alway check grammar before check meaning. this is effective. check minor grammar error is easier than check meaning logic.

check grammar.

"not unlikely" in E is wrong

"under procedure or weeks" means "under procedure or under weeks". Wrong, D is out

use noun, not doing."interviewing" is wrong, "interviews" is right. A is out (see question "attempt to try" in OG 10 to see this rule is ok by gmat)

"in" is repeated in C and is correct IMO. However, I do not see any question in OG which offer this preposition idea. but in "Critical reasoning 101", a printed lecture of gmat preparation company, the repeat of preposition is recognized.
