I'm currently a marketing manager in a large consumer electronics company. Due to personal reasons, I am highly considering switching companies. If my next role is a step down from "manager" (e.g. analyst or associate...etc), will this negatively affect my candidacy for business school admissions in the future? If so, is there a way for me to counteract this problem in my application?
Will switching companies impact my chances?

Well, basically you need to make the choice that is better for you. And then,, for the MBA application, you should try and find a way to SHOW the school that even if it seems like it's a step down, it is nonetheless a step closer to your goals and one that is better for you (so maybe you have a better salary, or more leads, or more responsibility, or are moving towards your goals). As long as you have good reasons, it won't look too bad.

I think it depends on salary level, responsibilities, etc. So for example moving from a corporate-side manager position to work for BCG as an associate would be fine. But moving from your present manager role to a position with a lower salary, less responsibilities and no tie to your future career direction could hurt.
Best of luck,
