Help - Low CGPA score for GMAT

by rakkey1 » Tue Jun 08, 2010 11:44 pm
Hi,

I was registering an appointment for GMAT when I found that my percentage score of 54% in undergrad was equivalent to a CGPA score of 0.4. Since my graduation in 2006, I have a total work experience of over 3 years. I do not have much of extra curricular activities to show, however, I have been among the top performers during my 3 years experience. I am worried about how detrimental would this to my application to B-schools. Also, how can I work to show that I am still a good candidate for the course?

Request urgent help on this.

Thanks,
Vineet

hey
different colleges have different gpa conversion
it seems you have graduated from indian university
now many people like in iit and all have 6.7 or as low as 6.0 out of 10.
they do make it to good colleges reason being school do consider lots of other factor such as demographic and education quality

if not mentioned submit your marks in percentage and let them do the calculation
its my opinion

Most US business schools have extensive experience with the Indian grading system. 54% on the US system would mean that you had failed nearly every class you took. I am sure that is not true. You might ask your undergraduate institution if they routinely translate their grading system to US standards. You should also see whether you can get a class rank from your school to help put your grades in perspective. Check out the explanation on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_grading_in_India

The Wikipedia scale would give you a 3.0, not a strong score if you are looking at the very top schools, but acceptable at many fine schools.
