what is the value of 1*0?
(1) 0*2=2
(2) 2*0=2

(1) If 0*2=2, then * must represent either addition (0+2=2, 0-2=-2, 0x2=0 and 0/2=0), in which case 1*0 must equal 1. So, statement 1 is sufficient.

(2)If 2*0=2, then * could represent either addition (2+0=2) or subtraction (2-0=2). So, it seems that statement 2 might be insufficient. However, notice that in both cases (* represents addition or subtraction) the value of 1*0 is the same (1+0=1 and 1-0=1). So, statement (2) is sufficient and the answer is D.
