A digital camera salesman earns a commision of 12$ per camera for the first 10 cameras he sells each day. If the salesman earns a commision of 16$ a camera for each one sold over 10, how many cameras did he sell today?

(1) Yesterday the camera salesman sold 10 cameras.
(2) The salesman earned $48 in commision more today than yesterday.

The OA is C.

I'm confused with this DS question. Please, can any expert help me to solve it? Thanks.

Hi LUANDATO,

We're told that a salesman earns a commision of 12$ per camera for the FIRST 10 cameras he sells each day and a commision of 16$ a camera for each ADDITIONAL camera sold over 10. We're asked for the number of cameras that he sold TODAY.

1) Yesterday the camera salesman sold 10 cameras.

Fact 1 tells us nothing about the cameras that were sold TODAY.
Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

2) The salesman earned $48 in commision more today than yesterday.

IF...
The sales sold 0 cameras yesterday and 4 cameras today, then the difference in commissions would be $48 - $0 = $48 and the answer to the question is 4.
The sales sold 10 cameras yesterday and 13 cameras today, then the difference in commissions would be $168 - $120 = $48 and the answer to the question is 13.
Fact 2 is INSUFFICIENT

Combined, we know that 10 cameras were sold yesterday - and the difference in commission between the 2 days would have to be from the "$16 commission" cameras - so exactly 13 cameras had to be sold today.
Combined, SUFFICIENT

Final Answer: C
