Difficulty—

Is x greater than 3.25?

(1) If x were rounded to the nearest thousandth, the result would be 3.254.
(2) If x were rounded to the nearest hundredth, the result would be 3.25.

The OA is the option A.

I am confused. Shouldn't be sufficient the second statement? Please, anyone, clarify this for me. <i class="em em-confused"></i>

Statement 1:
3.2535 ≤ x < 3.2545.
When any value in the range above is rounded to the nearest thousandth, the result is 3.254.
Since every value in the range above is greater than 3.25, the answer to the question stem is YES.
SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2:
3.245 ≤ x < 3.255.
When any value in the range above is rounded to the nearest hunredth, the result is 3.25.
If x = 3.245, the answer to the question stem is NO.
If x = 3.2549, the answer to the question stem is YES.
INSUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is A.
