b = a + 2 as they are consecutive even integers

even integers that precede a, that is the two two even integers which come before a in the counting would be a - 2 and, a - 4, their sum is given as 26

so (a-2) + (a-4) = 26 => a = 16

which means b = 16+2 = 18

So a+b = 34
