My 2nd and hopefully last attempt

by transfer9858 » Wed May 16, 2012 11:58 am
I am taking the gmat for the second time next week.

The first time, a month ago, I received a 570: 41/28.

I went in scoring mid-high 600s on manhattan Cat's and gmat prep. I went in thinking I was going to take it again as I wasn't ready for the 700 just yet. I had never received anything higher than a 670 on the Cat's before the first test. The 570 was an insane blow. My practice tests this time around are as follows:

Mgmat Cat 1- 700 47/38

Mgmat Cat 2- 710 47/40

Mgmat Cat 3 - 740 46/ 45

Interesting thing was I was on vacation between the 2nd and third and did not study at all for five days and went straight into CAT 3. I am thinking to maybe take stop studying on Monday as my test is next Thursday. I am hoping to score a 700 and be done with this! This forum has helped so much. Any last week tips would be awesome!

You are doing great on your CATs, you'll do even better on the test. Not that I am in a position to give advice since I am preparing for the new version of the GMAT. Here goes:
1. Keep things simple now. Don't learn any new tricks/strategies etc. Obviously whatever you are doing right now is good enough.
2. Make sure you keep your facts and strategies at your fingertips by revising both of them.
3. Just make sure you know these kinds of questions (which are becoming common now):
a. Meaning related SC questions.
b. Complete the passage - CR questions.
c. Inequalities and Number properties - PS questions.
d. Oh and significance of standard deviation and how to solve overlapping sets - DS(just in case).
e. And warm up with some questions from OG for RC prep.
And don't worry, I have a crazy friend who takes the GMAT almost every other month for fun. He is usually in the 96th-99th percentile, but for some reason he got a 520 last month. It can happen to anyone on a bad day. Focus on the current scores and good luck. I hope this was helpful :)

It was, thanks a lot! I am going to take couple more cat's and just take it easy- Like you said, you can't really learn anything knew now. My focus will be just on reviewing SC...
