I have never taken a GMAT before. I think i need to take a GMAT in order for me to further my study and i need 550 for that. Is it easy to get that? I was just wondering if i can get 550 without doing any practice?

Hi Pahir,

A score of 550 is a 51 percentile score as of 2008, so it's hitting ever-so-slightly above the mean. The best advice is to just take one of the free practice exams out there, like GMAC's GMATPrep software, and that will give you a pretty good idea of where you stand. From there you can take the GMAT with a bit of confidence or come back here and we'll help you put together a study plan. Good luck!

I would say that a 550 is attainable for most students. If you did well in high school math and have a rudimentary knowledge of English, I'm sure you will do fine. But, as Jose said, you should take free tests to find out for sure.

In addition to the official one, Kaplan and Princeton Review offer a free test you can take.

I disagree that a 550 is "easy" to get. As Jose says, it's 51st percentile, so most test takers get below a 550! I think the population on this forum is a little skewed towards the higher scores...

So, whatever anyone here says, don't underestimate this beast. Even if you "only" need a 550, be sure to study hard.
