Fantastic score.

I especially appreciate your comment that the GMAT is about confidence and strategy. People may attention to the strategy part, but having the confidence in your performance seems to be an important factor that is often overlooked.

Hey NextGreatLeader,

That's what i actually believe. If you are confident in your strategies, reaching the 700 mark isn't really an issue with the GMAT. And considering the fact that 700 is the benchmark most schools look for, some basic strategies and confidence would take most applicants in a safe zone!

Thanks, if you went thro the entire post. I thot it came out too long..:)
best luck with your attempt.

Congrats on the great score.
Can you let us know, how you managed to practice the second time around? like what practice tests and material you used.
I'm planning to retake the test and have already exhausted the good CATs (MGMAT and GMATPrep), so not sure what material to practice the second time around.

Hi buddy,

First of all many a congratulations on this stupendous score.
I too took the GMAT on 25th August. Though I got 49 in Quant I could not manage to get good score in verbal which was just 28. I scored a disappointing 640. My target was at least 720. Though my RC and SC had been good in the exam, I guess I tanked in CR section. I am just coming out of this fiasco and reviving myself again to do better. I am in dire need of something through which I can make my verbal score better. I read your post and got some intuition that you could help me in this regard. Could you please advise me how to score better in Verbal. If possible, please share your contact details so that I can discuss with you. For Quant, I am very confident and I scored 48-50 every time I took GMAT prep tests or 800 score tests. However, my best score in GMATprep for verbal has been 32. Please help me by advising what to do to score better in verbal section. I did finish OG12 (twice), 2nd edition Verbal Guide (Once), MGMAT books (RC (once), SC(twice) and CR (once) books), and PS CR bible(once, in last few days). However could not make my score better in verbal. Look forward to some advise from you.

I am having sleepless nights over my verbal score and in dire need of some help through which I can make my score at least 35 to cross the 700 barrier.

Cheers!

What can I say but me, after being crushed at CAT (95%ile)...one fine day, after mulling over my sorry state days, finally decided to take the plunge. Though, during this preparation, I regretted that fine day..Since, the instincts that made me give the GMAT left me 40 days to prepare..All the introduction to GMAT, learning about colleges, their expenses...I swear I lost 4-5 days prep sweating over the fact, if I do get in a GMAT, how the hell am I going to bear the expenses ??

Well, the D Day arrived without any ardor....And well, my score was 680..Disappointed..The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the score...believe me on this..How the fuck can you manage to screw up everytime so magnificently ??

Well, life has been pretty confusing since then. See, I have only 2 years exp...I was rather aiming for ISB this time. But 680 makes it a distant dream..

My confusion is should I retake GMAT again this year ?? Or should I wait again ??

Any one guiding me would act as a savior to me !!

Hey bigbang9,

Actually all the tests I took were the ones I had taken during my first attempt. Didn't practice anything new as such. But I did try solving 8-10 verbal section paper based tests.

Bestluck!!

Hi crescendo99,

The above mentioned helped me in general on Verbal. For CR, I made a crude tree diagram based on Powerscore, indicating specific qualities of each question type, and tried to memorize it. May sound weird but that worked for me. So u are welcome to try it.

Cheers n Best luck!!

Congrats man!! that's a wonderful score. I appeared in my GMAT a couple of months ago. My quant score was pathetic 42. Can you tell me which book I should use to Practice some 70 to 80 percentile quant questions.

Dude, big congrats for the 99 percentile. Many people succeed in scoring Q49 but God, that V44 is something only warriors can pull up.
In your words, only insane people score V44 in GMAT and man, you are one daredevil of that sort.
Enjoy the feeling of being on top of the world and all the very best for Next Fall.

Hi Sumit. May you please share your verbal strategies with us. Particularly, how you worked on SC and RC? I am from Pune too. Looking forward to write GMAT in October.
