Profile Evaluation

24/male/Asian


Education: Computer Science graduate (bachelors honor degree) with GPA 3.0/4.

Work Experience: 1 years experience as Quality Assurance, 1 years experience as Java Developer from a leading e-commerse company
GMAT Score: Studying real hard now, haven't take the GMAT yet

Interests: Strategy, Operations, and any finance work


My story and commitment:

I gradated with a bachelor honor degree in computer science from a top 30 compute science school. I gradated approximate 2 years ago and had been working for a while now in Hong Kong. To be honest, my gpa wan't very good cus I was very immature back then and didn't plan my career path well. I truly regret of it. After working for a while and learnt from the hard way, I decided to switch my field. I wish to work in IB in the future. However, I am very confused now as I don't know what steps should I take next.

My questions:
1. I am planning to do a master degree in Finance. Will it help for job seeking in finance field ( I don't mind start from entry level !)
2. If I score a outstanding Gmat score, will I have a good chance get into top school for Mfin consider my gpa isn't very good and my bachelor degree is in computer science
3. If so, what university should I look for ?

Yes, absolutely. A Masters in Finance is a great way to switch your career into financial services.

An outstanding GMAT score will certainly help mitigate concerns about your low undergrad GPA. You might also want to offer up a brief essay/explanation of why your undergrad GPA was so low. The adcom will appreciate your honesty and it will also let them know that you don't feel the GPA is your best effort.
3. If so, what university should I look for ?

This really depends on a few things. Where do you want to live? Where do you live now? Can you move for school? A couple to look at are Boston College and Wash U.

First of all, thanks for the quick reply and answers ! I really appreciate the help very much !

As for question 3,
I am currently live in Hong Kong but I am willing to move for any school and any location ! Also, should I do MBA after or should I just do a MBA ?

I would suggest doing either the Masters in Finance or the MBA, but not both. It can be difficult to convince an MBA adcom that you need an MBA after you already have an advanced degree in finance. I suggest you determine your long term goal and then work backwards from there - the right degree should become apparent.
