If x and y are positive, what’s the value of x ?
(1) x = 3.927y
(2) y = 2.279

(1) no clue what y is, insufficient.

(2) no info about x, insufficient.

Together: we can substitute in the value for y from (2) into the equation from (1) and get a definite value for x: sufficient, choose (c).
