American Heart Association researchers have calculated that one person in the United States should experience a coronary event every 26 seconds.

A)one person in the United States should experience a coronary event every 26 seconds

B)a person in the United States should experience a coronary event once in every 26 seconds

C)a coronary event will strike one person in the United States once in every 26 seconds

D)every 26 seconds a person in the United States will experience a coronary event

E)every 26 seconds a person in the United States should experience a coronary event

Guys ,

I can easily eliminate option A,B,and E because of should.

My doubt is why OAD why not C

Hi j_shreyans,

You correctly eliminated 3 of the answers. With the two that remain, the issues are really about usage and style:

1) "...calculate..." What can you calculate? You can calculate a number. Which of the two answers closely follows the word "calculate" with a number?

2) Redundancy: Since each answer already uses a singular word ("one" in answer C, "a" in answer D), we don't really need the word "once" later on in the sentence.

Both of points help me to eliminate C

Final Answer: D

Can someone please explain why option E is wrong. It makes use of the word "should", while option D uses "will".

I feel "should" is more appropriate since the researchers have done some calculations to back the claim.

The usage of should implies a RECOMMENDATION, an in the following:
Every test-taker SHOULD know the formula for the area of a triangle.

In the SC above, researchers are not recommending that a person experience a coronary event, so the usage of should is inappropriate.
