Please solve and explain.

A square counter top has a square tile inlay in the center, leaving an untiled strip of uniform width around the tile. If the ratio of the tiled area to the untiled area is 25 to 39,which of the following could be the width, in inches, of the strip?
I. 1
II. 3
III. 4

A I only
B II only
C I & II only
D I & III only
E. I,II & III
Thanks,

I will go with E

Suppose the side of tiled area is x and side of total area is y

Q says x^2/(y^2-x^2) = 25/39

Solve this to get x/y = 5/8. Means if x = 5, y = 8 so width of untiled strip is 8-5 = 3

From the ans we can form equations y-x=1, y-x=3 and y-x=4

All 3 equations combined with x/y=5/8 is solvable for x and y

I agree, I don't see why it can't be all three answers....
