Good questions to ask at an admissions forum?

I'm going to attend a forum hosted by a B-school in a few weeks, with people from the admissions department as well as alumni from the B-school on hand.

Besides taking notes on what they have to say, what are some good prospective questions I should be asking? Are there any other objectives I should have in mind for this event? (besides making myself known to as many people as I can - or could this strategy potentially backfire?)

i.e. - should I go around shaking hands and blabbing off my 'elevator pitch'? Should I take my time and ask 1 or 2 relevant questions instead?

I've never been to one of these, so I'd rather make no impact than a negative one. Thanks for any tips

Hi shadowsjc,

Great questions. The most important thing to do is to be yourself so I would recommend looking at your application and asking questions that you really wonder about. Some questions I asked last year when I got accepted into a top school:

1. "I have three possible recommenders: two in my current employment and one in a past and different type of job. What would you [admissions] recommend I choose?"

2. I'm thinking about writing a unique answer to question 3 of the application process, is it ok to bend the question a bit?

As for your goals of the forum, I think it is get to know one of the people in admissions. I would not spread yourself thin and instead focus on getting your personality across to one person. This is not a place for your elevator pitch - that's what the application is for - you want the admissions person to leave the meeting thinknig, "I met shadowsjc and he/she was very nice/interesting/polite/fun". Personality counts for a lot more than you think.
