Problem solving. Any easy way to do?

On a certain engineering team, the ratio of engineers with advanced degrees to those with bachelor's degree is 5 to 8. Were 4 more engineers with advanced degrees to join the team, the ratio would be 3 to 4. How many engineers are on the team altogether?

A 52,
B 39
C 26
D 24
E 12

Any easy way to do? :(

the original ratio is 5/8

So total is 13 . Only 3 numbers are divisible by 13 i.e 52 , 39 and 26

start with 52

5/13*52 = 20 -> adv degree

32-> bachelors

Add 4 to 20 -> 24

24/32 = 3/4

Hence A

(If u did 39 and 26 this condition would not be met) I think its solvable wihtin 2 minutes even if u started with 26. Just my opinion

initial ratio = 5:8
ratio after additinoal engg joined 3:4 = 6:8

(5k+4)/8k = 6k/8k
k=4

total engg: 13k = 52
