Now, if we spend more time on this we can reduce to A and E and finally to A

I was just joking about E

1st as much as is wrong because ''as that the breeds have relatively few founding members. '' describes the criteria.

B and C are out

'Their' should not be used as we need to refer to the cause and not the dog

So D is out

Now, we are left with A and E

I chose A - lesser of the two evils - because I do not like the use of infinitive verb form in E 'to be'.
