another 'contrast-ing' question

by rohangupta83 » Tue Nov 18, 2008 7:12 am
Although it claims to delve into political issues, television can be superficial such as when each of the three major networks broadcast exactly the same statement from a political candidate.

(A) superficial such as when each of the three major networks
(B) superficial, as can sometimes occur if all of the three major networks
(C) superficial if the three major networks all
(D) superficial whenever each of the three major networks
(E) superficial, as when the three major networks each

OA - coming soon.. Enjoy!

IMO E.

A: Such as is used to give examples and not used to mention a situation.
B: Wordy and awkward
C: means television will become superficial ONLY WHEN all three major networks broadcast the same thing. While the situation given is just a point in case.
D: Similar to C
E: Correct option.

got it scooby

was not able to understand what made E plural as all I remembered was whenever 'each' is used, the subject became singular.

Well, as it turns out, I was only half correct.

Each - if used before the subject, makes the subject singular

Each - if used after the subject (as done in choice E) has no bearing on the verb form of the subject.

OA - is indeed E
