I am a newbie and this is just my 2nd post.
Yes I was literally screwed by the GMAT today. I was looking for a 680+ and would have succeeded if my verbal performed better.
My case is quite complicated. I started my GMAT preparation in the beginnning of October. I am not a native English speaker. I was seriously ill for 5 weeks and had work to hand in for my course. (I am a final year student doing Economics).
Materials I used:
Princeton Review
OG11 (didn't start it until 2 weeks ago)
Manhattan SC (didn't start 2 weeks ago)
Kaplan 2007 CD
My scores were really really funny:
PR CAT1 520 (Q36 V26)<------after a week of preparation
PR CAT2 590 (Q42 V30)<------after 7 weeks of preparation.
MGMAT Free online 650 (Q46 V33)
GMATPrep1 630 (Q45 V31)
GMATPrep2 630 (Q46 V31) 3 days before the real thing
I found that I never really grasped the essence of CR and RC throughout my preparation. However I was really taken by surprise of how miserable the verbal score was.
In the quant session I was a bit panicked in the beginning. After 2-3 questions I started to pick up my pace but discouraged after so many easy questions popped out. According to the logic I was getting more questions wrong. It turned out to be a surprise as you may see, my quant score never exceed 46.
In the verbal session, there are very few weaken, strengthen or assumptions question of CR, instead there are a lot of resolving, resoning and even 1 boldface questions show up. I believe I screw it up really bad as I could hardly find the premises and conclusions.
I am planning for a retake in January, yet unsure if there is any strategies that can help me to improve my verbal score. It will be great if all the gurus out there can give some advice.
THANKS A LOT.
