"The number of ..." uses singular verb is what I could identify

and hence "is " over 800..both are not underlined hence not helpful

Observations

E is passive "by humans"

B.. C ing" progressive tense means humans are still forcing while sentence gives data about the past ( last half millenium)


D..complete mess...it says that plants and animals are known...can plants and animals know anything

ABC
known to / as / for
known to is the correct construction


B known as having forced to become....is incorrect

Except A, all are awkward.

One doubt: "The number of A and B..." is plural or singular? If we read it as "The number of A and the number of B..." then it's plural else it's singular.
