Laid off...are my chances shot?

by bailojo » Tue Nov 11, 2008 4:07 pm
Stacy,

I was just laid off from a Big 4 accounting firm. I was told it didn’t have to do with performance, but rather the current market conditions. I was the most junior analyst in their business development group and have great references coming out; however, this still worries me as it was my first job out of undergrad. Are my chances of getting into a top 10 shot? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance…

Dear bailojo,

Being laid off will not be the reason you do not get into business school as schools understand the nature of the market. Whether or not you get into a top 10 depends on what your entire application looks like and how you will account for your time between now and starting business school.

Good luck,
Lisa
