OG10 Vs GMATPrep questions

by Nidhi Jain » Sat Nov 01, 2008 10:32 am
Hi All,
I am pretty new to this forum. And popped up here for your suggestions.

I took GMATprep around 15 days back and got just 460.

I have finished OG 10 quanta (except last 30 questions) and also referred couple of other high school books. I dont find OG to be "very hard". Questions are manageable. However, I found questions in GMATPrep to be far difficult than OG. Any reason behind it?

I am also solving 1000series. My accuracy rate in Quanta is around 70% and in Verbal close to 65%. I am sure in one month's time I can push it till 80%. But will this accuracy be sufficient enough for me to touch 700 score?????

I have my GMAT in Dec 1st week. I need to get 700. Any suggestions to lift the score?

Thanks,
Nj

OG contains medium difficulty level questions.
In quant, I would say it contains very easy questions.

You need to have concepts in place before moving to difficult Qs.
OG is an excellent start but can not be the end.
Not at all for someone aiming at 700.

First do all OG Qs, the later ones are more difficult.
Than move to difficult Qs from Manhattan / Kaplan or ...

NJ,
1. OG 10 Qs are not in increasing order of difficulty. Randomly distributed.
2. OG-11 has Qs in increasing diffilcuty level. The last 50 Qs are in 700+ level.
3. Its good to track your accuracy, but make it a point to learn from your mistakes..."Those who don't learn from mistakes are doomed to repeat it"
4. I guess you found GMATprep to be hard/tough because you underestimated it by solving easier problems from OG. Its not your fault! Make it a point to practise extensively.
5. Believe me..Quant is not tough in GMAT and you can easily get atleast 49 wven by commiting 10-14 mistakes!!!
6. Avoid mistakes in the first 10-15 Qs. As GMAT penalises you for early mistakes!
7. For Indians, Quant has never been a challenge. Verbal is the main challenge.

You can tell the breakup and no. of mistakes for detailed analysis.

Cheers!!

Hi Nandan,
Thanks for the reply. I guess, you are right. I took the test with wrong expectations and also by the mid of quanta I stopped even reading the question as i was very disappointed with the difficulty level. So, half the choices were random one.

I will take another test in few days. Hope that goes better.

Thanks once again,
Nj
