Average GMAT score

by himbenz » Tue Oct 28, 2008 11:18 pm
Hi, Lisa

Just curious how average GMAT score plays role in school selection. For e.g if TAMU lists its average GMAT score as 643 and if a person has around 640-650 with strong five years of managemant experience, can he go for application. Also how are people with Masters evaluated as they have spent two years or so gaining that degree rather than work experience. I will appreciate if you can throw some light. I am caught in a kind of dilema as I represent a non IT group with gmat in mid 600s(650), an M.S in electrical engineering from Europe with good international work experience. Now working as a manger, business strategy. Total five years of work experience. My target schools are 20-30 tier schools such as TAMU, Houston, and Gatech.

Thanks and Regards
Himanshu

Dear Himanshu,

I think your target schools are reasonable choices for you. Your GMAT is right around the average, but you seem to have strong work experience. Your two years in a masters program will be evaluated, but it does not count as work experience. Focus on getting in strong applications soon and try to visit the schools (if you haven't already).

Good luck,
Lisa
