Are the new ideas introduced ONLY in a society that permits the freedom of expression? Although, the author clearly assumes the same, the history has shown us the contrary examples. The 14th to 18th centuries must have seen the religious, society restrictions at their peak. But still we saw so many great scientists like Galelio, so great artists and scientists like Leonardo Da Winchi getting thrived. Clearly, the restriction or the loss of freedom of expression can not block the great new ideas coming from the great minds.
Only the new ideas are not the once which help a society to thrive. The exchanges between the societies, attacks and change of the rulers have also helped. The Egypt and Rome collaboration or the British rule in India are the examples wherein the cusotms and inventions were shared across these societies which helped not only the ruler but also the ruling population to grow.
The argument would have been more convincing if the author would have stated it moderatly for ex. For the society to thrive the freedom of expression helps. The below explanation could be used to make the new argument strong.
From the twentith century, the freedom of expression has been granted like never before and this has helped the science,technology and literature to grow beyond our imagination. Human being has had his footprints on the moon. The globalization has brought the societies from all over the world together and has grown into a global society. So, the freedom of expression helps the society to thrive but loss of it would not stop the growth of the society.
