Almost doomed.. Please help

by Arunlal » Sat Oct 25, 2008 12:36 am
Hi

I have my GMAT on 18th Nov. With another 20 odd days.. i scored 530(Q36, V27) in GMAT prep. Looks like i am doomed.

What should i do from here.. any scope of getting over 650 from here?
Let me know if someone had been my shoes earlier.

Thanks
-Arun

That depends quite a bit on what you'd already been doing to prep before that test...how long you've been studying, how much untimed practice, how familiar you were with the GMAT... Did you take the test cold without any prep?

What other materials are you using? How many hours a day are you working on it? Give us more details!

Hey I might be able to help.
For one thing buy the mgmat tests 6 for $39 and practice all of them.
If you do 2 per day, you can finish in a week. They have really helped me analyze my mistakes.

I have OG 11. Princeton.. some popular mterials like Manhattan SC, spidey. I have been thru almost most these materials.

I do understand what is being tested in GMAT, only difficulty being in identifying my mistakes. Preparation has not been so good due to my hectic work schedule.

please advice what are the important things i ned to do in these 20 days to get ny where between 650-700. I know i dont have much time to go through the world of materials.

Thanks.

Your score of 530(Q36, V27) in GMAT prep is definitely low, but the good thing is you have over 20 days. You can definitely improve. My first advice would be to use only those materials that would help you. Too many stuff spoil the game.

From your score, it looks like you have to work hard in both math and verbal sections of the GMAT.

Verbal: Do the OG (SC,CR,RC) - understand the explanations - very important. Go thru' Manhattan SC several times so that you will "sub-consciously" apply their rules in any GMAT SC you will see...For CR, use kaplan and for RC, OG should be fine.

Quant: Buy e-books of 4GMAT (www.4GMAT.com). Very good. e-books are available for number theory and inequalities, probability and geometry (co-ordinate and solid included) - the favourite topics of GMAT. You will get almost 25 questions from these topics. I used 4GMAT's material to score over 700.

Feel free to write to me at: [email protected] for some good verbal materials (I had used).

All the best.. Keep working hard!!!
