Need help in school selection

by phd_mba » Fri Oct 24, 2008 1:19 pm
I have a BS/MS and Ph.D in engineering and 2 years of work experience in R&D. My GMAT score is 710. Do you think I can get to any of the Ivy league schools? Does any of these schools give higher weightage to a Ph.D?

Dear phd_mba,

Maybe. You did not really post enough information for me to give a better answer. Your GMAT score is competitive for the Ivy Leagues, but without knowing your undergraduate GPA, what you've done in your work experience, and what your future career goals are, I really can't comment on your chances. Schools do not generally give any significance to having a PhD beyond evaluating it like you would any other degree and looking for you to give a clear rationale for why you now want a MBA. You will need to present a compelling case for how a MBA fits into your future plans relative to your past experiences and education.

Good luck,
Lisa
