Hi Stacy. I recently took the gmat and got a 660. I went to Valparaiso university and majored in accounting and management. I have been working for a year and would like to begin a doctorate program in accounting next fall when i will have completed two years of work at a public accouting firm. My undergrad GPA was 3.92. Do you think I stand a chance at getting in to a top 10 program? Most of them seem very small and competitive. Thanks!

Janders

Dear Janders,

As my expertise is in MBA programs, I am unable to advise you with 100% confidence on your chances for PhD programs. Generally speaking, I would think you have a good chance assuming you have strong ideas on your thesis and are committed to doing research. PhD applicants are evaluated quite differently than MBA applicants. GMAT and GPA are important, but so is your research interest and motivation to get your PhD.

Best of luck,
Lisa
