I finally achieved my target score of 740.
My GMAT journey wasn’t without its setbacks and hours of study, and I wanted to share my story so others who are struggling know they’re not alone through their process.
Background
I don’t have much background in math or verbal testing outside of taking the SAT 10 years ago, and so I was forced to learn for the first time a lot of the concepts tested in the GMAT.
I started with a 660 on a mock GMAT and knew that I had ample room for improvement.
My starting process
I went to YouTube to search and see what some top performers had done to improve their scores.
The consistent, recurring theme was that many had turned to Target Test Prep for their preparation.
From then on, I only used TTP as my study resource.
My experience
The quant prep on TTP is second to none, and while I initially struggled with some of the concepts, the sheer volume of quiz questions after each chapter really cemented each chapter.
The verbal prep was the aspect that I found most challenging, and in particular, the critical reasoning section gave me repeated headaches.
Here, TTP’s approach to segmenting each type of question in Critical Reasoning and taking a differing approach to solving each type of question was very important. Being able to ID conclusions was an essential skill that TTP really helped me hone.
By the end of my prep, I had run out of new questions from TTP and mock GMATs, but still hadn’t taken the official test. At this point, I started using other practice questions from other test prep providers. I noticed that with a few other providers their questions didn’t always test the same logic that the actual GMAT tested, whereas TTP had universally similar questions to the actual GMAT mocks. Using TTP the entire time was such a blessing in hindsight.
The best part about TTP
Each chapter is broken down to such a simple and basic degree so you’re able to learn concepts from their simplest level then build up your understanding. Each chapter has video breakdowns going through questions and the instructor breaks down every question and why each answer choice is right or wrong.
Then from there, you finish each chapter with easy, medium, and hard quizzes that really solidify your understanding with practice and in-depth breakdowns of each question.
My mocks
On my official mocks I scored between a 740 and a 770, so I ultimately ended up scoring on the lower end of my range.
It could be just my experience, but I found the quant to be a similar difficulty to the mocks, but I found the verbal to be more challenging than the mocks.
Overall:
I can’t recommend TTP highly enough. It was an absolutely indispensable piece of my prep and achieving my score.
