C is wordy.
between B and D, D is better choice. They in 'D' has a clear referrent as well.

D is the best option
(1) Option A, "they" does not have a clear antecedent.
(2) "Being" is never correct in GMAT. Eliminate choice B and E
E also has a prnonun issue with "Their" , C also has the same problem
(3) D correctly introduces proposition 'in' also the pronoun they referes to the membranes and " at the elbow" is parallel to "at the wrist"
