Whether you not you should obtain another masters has a bit to do with what you are seeking to do post-MBA. What are you looking to get out of an MBA, exactly? Presumably, Columbia offers good employment recruiting opportunities through their masters program. Are you looking to transition out of real estate or into a different sector of real estate? Would you be a real estate major during your MBA? Why did you do an MS in RE Dev instead of an MBA to begin with?
Without some soul searching on how you would answer these questions and a water-tight story about why an MBA is necessary, why you need it now, and what you plan on doing post-MBA, on the face of this profile request, I’m worried that you are going to look like you are simply collecting degrees or, worse, are getting passed up professionally and are just looking for a way to “reset” after getting disappointed with your options. You need to make sure that you are not going to look “washed up” in your application.
If you have 7 years of experience in real estate as well as a masters and you graduated college at the conventional age, you are likely 30-31 now. If that’s the case, your chances of getting into a top program may be lower than they would have been if you applied with fewer years of experience or earlier in your career arc. Obtaining admission after 30 is doable, and we have clients who surmount this hurdle every year, but the acceptance rate is lower, so it behooves you to think diligently about your strategic positioning before you apply, especially considering the rankings of the schools you’ve listed here.
