mixed race question

Dear Stacy,

I've been looking at a lot of the demographic profiles for the schools that I am interested in and it seems that a few of them have a "multi-racial/ethnicity" category that generally has the lowest percentage in terms of US minority groups in each profile.

I know that GPA/GMAT/resume/recommendations etc are the most important factors in an application, but do you think that being a member of a very underrepresented minority (mixed race/multi-racial US citizen) may help push an application towards the "admit" pile?

Dear letsfreakout,

Schools are always trying to increase the under-represented minority (African American/Hispanic/Native American) population of their programs. It will not be the reason you get admitted, but it will get you a more thorough review of your qualifications.
