Let t = the time, in hours, it takes the two trains to meet. We can create the equation:

50t = 40t + 100

10t = 100

t = 10

Thus each train has traveled for 10 hours. So the total distance between P and Q is

50(10) + 40(10) = 500 + 400 = 900 km

Answer: D
