We're told that it is assumed that 60 percent of those who receive a questionnaire by mail will respond and 300 responses are needed. We're asked for the MINIMUM number of questionnaires that should be mailed. We can answer this question with a bit of logic and TESTing THE ANSWERS.

To start, IF only 50% of people responded to the questionnaire, then we would need 600 mailings to generate 300 responses (since 50% of 600 = 300). However, since we're dealing with a 60% response rate, (.6)(600) = 360 - and that's far more responses than we actually 'need.' Thus, 600 is almost certainly NOT the answer.
