What's the best way to determine whether statement 1 is sufficient?

Statement 1: k > -3. k could be -2 or -1 or 0, etc. Not sufficient

Statement 2: Any number raised to an even exponent must be nonnegative. If k^4 is less than or equal to 0, and it can't be less than 0, then k^4 must, by definition, be equal to 0. Because we know definitively that k = 0 statement 2 alone is sufficient. The answer is B
