What are the important topics one should focus on in quants?

Hi pratj05,
If you are starting out then I would focus on the core topics of Arithmetic, Algebra, and Word Problems and put on emphasis on data sufficiency, because that is unique to GMAT only. Once you have a handle on these, you can branch out to the other topics. Of course a lot will depend on your initial base line and how many of the concepts you are already familiar with.

Arithmetic, algebra, and word problems. If you have a solid grasp of those, you're in pretty good shape: most GMAT problems will test those (and only those) directly, and the other problems typically test them indirectly (you still need good arithmetic and algebra to do geometry, probability, etc.)
