is it time worthy to extract the relevant data from a word problem and re-write it on the erasable board? I find this helps me understand the problem and it seems more efficient in solving. I have not yet moved onto pacing (still in math review) so before I get into this habit I wanted to know if this was wasting my time and will slow me down overall or if this is a good idea?

I would say so, especially if you can arrange some of the data into equations as you are going. As someone else recommended on this board, the most effective test takers will start writing down data and formulas immediately--before they've even totally decided how to solve the problem. Sometimes just getting the information written down will help you figure out how to use it faster.
