Dear Reader,
Thank you for your time in advance.
Found this website a few weeks ago and I have been meaning to post. Thanks to everyone who takes the time out of their day to give free tips to prospective MBAs like myself! Below are my profile statistics (hoping to start a MBA program in Fall 2018):
Nationality: West-African
College: American University DC, 2012
Degree: Business Admin, Concentration in Entrepreneurship, Minor in Economics
GPA: 3.2
Major GPA: 3.5
GMAT: 740
Age: 25 (will be 26 when I start) -- graduated college a little early at 20, which is why I might seem a little young.
Work Experience (Will be total of 6 years full time when I start my MBA in 2018):
1.) 2 year experience in venture funded tech startup doing Product Marketing. Two promotions. Startup failed. Many lessons learned.
2.) 1 and half years in health tech startup doing Product Management. Startup got acquired by massive health care company.
3.)3 years (by time I apply) in a venture funded tech startup. General Management role spanning operations and growth marketing. Started the Marketing department. Helped grow revenue from <$2m to over $7m in revenue per year.
4.) Co-Founded a tech incubator based in West Africa. 5 startups have launched out of this incubator, as well as a shared office space business that has grown to 2 buildings.
Other: Self-taught full-stack web developer. Very comfortable writing code.
I know it is very tough to give analysis with limited information but I thought I would start here and see if by any chance I could get some tips on how I can structure my application to receive a scholarship. Given that I have plenty of time to apply, I was thinking of applying to my dream schools, and just give it a shot. I plan to go into a MBA program focussed on Entrepreneurship or Product Management. My goal is to work for a top tech company like Google in a Product Management role after my MBA or to start a company with someone I meet at my MBA program. I plan to apply to:
NYU Stern
UMich
Harvard
Stanford
Yale
Georgetown
Columbia
UVA
University of Marlyand
Wharton
GWU
INSEAD
LBS
Kogod Business School
Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts with me.
