i go with 3

total work done by 6 machine in 12 days is 6*12 = 72
to complete the same amount of work

let the additional machines be X

(6+x) *8 = 72

X = 3

Rate of one machine is 1/72

(1/72)*8(days)*x(machines)=1
x=9
9-6=3
