Hi, I need help with the below SC question.

After suffering $2 billion in losses and 25,000 layoffs, the nation's semiconductor industry, which makes chips that run everything from computers and spy satellites to dishwashers, appears to have made a long-awaited recovery.

(A) computers and spy satellites to dishwashers, appears to have
(B) computers, spy satellites, and dishwashers, appears having

My Analysis:
Correct Idiom is FROM X to Y.
So options that may be right are either A or D.
Since Nation's Semiconductor industry is singular, "to have" is incorrect usage.

Hence I guess we will have to go with option D(it has).
Please advice if I am wrong.

I am going through 1000SC. Please suggest if there is alternate method for better SC practice.Thanks !!!

The subject is "the nation's semiconductor industry" and the verb is "appear" NOT "to have". So the verb "appears" is correct.

Answer is A.

Both option A and option D has the verb "Appears"

My doubt refuses to die. Please help !!!

Simple.. You are right in narrowing down to A and D.

Now, eliminate the nonessential stuff from the sentence.
you will be left out with:
A: the nation's semiconductor industry appears to have made a long-awaited recovery.
D: the nation's semiconductor industry appears that it has made a long-awaited recovery.

Appears to be is Right. pick A.
