In this sentence, there is a comparison of goal of young adults to goal of earlier generation.

I answered that A is correct. But correct answer is E.

Og explains that we need a clause and hence E.

Why do we need a clause for this question? Does'nt the phrase "like that of earlier generations" taking care of it.

Okay..here is what you should do:

1) Find out what this sentence is trying to compare
2) Learn what a phrase is and what a clause is

This exercise will help you to understand this type of problems.
