(1) This statement tells us two things - x is positive & x has a greater absolute value than y. Thus, even if y is negative, the sum of x and y will be positive. Consider some examples: x = 3, y = -2; x = 6, y = -5, etc... Thus, this statement alone is SUFFICIENT.

(2) Insufficient. Tells us nothing about x.

Answer: A

In case of con 1), from x>|y|≥-y, we get x>-y, x+y>0. The answer is yes and the condition is sufficient. Hence, the correct answer is A


- Forget conventional ways of solving math questions. In DS, Variable approach is the easiest and quickest way to find the answer without actually solving the problem. Remember equal number of variables and independent equations ensures a solution.
