Need advice (48Q 34V 660)

Hi,

So after studying for a month, I got the same score as I did on my first practice test (660)...

But I had been getting scores of around 700-720 (700 and 720 on the two GMAT Prep tests), and a verbal score always around 38-42.

Unfortunately today I took the test and got a 34... I don't know how, and I'm feeling pretty disappointed in myself.

I was hoping someone could give me advice on whether I should consider retaking the test in the next month or so? or if I should be content with my 660 when 720 or so is the best I could expect?

It depends a lot on what you are trying to accomplish with the score. Which University etc.

If your profile is competitive to start out with and if you are targeting top schools then you should retake the GMAT if you think you can do better.

If your profile is not competitive for a top school, then a stronger GMAT will likely not bail you out.

If you are not going for a top school, then a 660 is perfectly fine in most cases.

I agree with LSB's comments. A lot depends on your credentials and the schools you plan to apply to.

btw, can you share what in your mind pulled down your Verbal score on the actual test? Did you find the questions on the actual test harder than GMATPrep?

I was looking at going to University of Washington Business School, which has a median GMAT score of around 675, and median GPA of 3.4, which I have.

Not sure what happened on the verbal test, I got some difficult questions in the middle of the test, but must have just bombed the latter portion. I actually finished with 8 minutes left...

660 should be enough for University of Washington Business School

Well my advise wud b that if u r applying to schools ranked between 16 and 50... there wont b much of a difference... check 4 the location of the school and ur changes of getting a scholarship...
I think with above average essays & recos + 660... Univ of Washington wud b in ur grasp... I know a frnd whos in Univ Of Washington, Seattle... Currently Hes in 2nd year... He got a 50% fee waiver..His credentials-7yrs work exp + 720 GMAT...
So getting a scholarship might b tough but getting an admit wud not b that tough... Also depends upon other factors such as quality & quantity of work exp... My frnd said tht there r few in d univ with 3-4 yrs of work exp...
So it depends upon many factors... This is a diplomatic post as i just thot this info wud help u out...
