The Asian American History Association received approximately 1000 proposals each year from individuals who wish to present papers at its annual meeting. The association's officers wish to maintain constant standards of quality in the presentations year to year. The officers have therefore decided to accept for presentation only the best 300 papers selected on the basis of the proposals submitted.

Of the following the best criticism of the officer's plan is that the plan assumes that

(A) Professional associations cannot accept all papers submitted for presentation at their annual meetings.

(B) The total number of proposals submitted to the association will remain at approx 1000, in future years.

(C) Each proposal submitted to the association deserves to be considered a serious candidate for presentation.

(D) It is difficulty to judge the quality of the paper on the basis of the proposal alone.

(E) The best 300 papers submitted to the association for the presentation will be of the same quality from year to year.

The conclusion is that quality of standards causes the association to make selective judgements.

E is another way of stating the premise.

the council will only choose based on the "proposals" received.. They will not be able to view the actual papers to be presented. Hence it is possible that the proposal might turn out to be great but the paper a damb squib.. Hence D..

The only two options in my opinion that deserve consideration are D and E.
Rest of them more or less do not fit in the scope of the argument.

If we disprove the assumption the argument will fall.

For D, the argument already says that the method of estimation of the best 300 papers exists. Also D mentions "judged" which is not said in the argument.

Now to maintain the quality of papers is the reson why only "BEST" 300 are allowed to be presented. However what if the quality of even the best 300 is not upto the mark...

I inititally thought it was A but in the exam, to be on the safe side, I would also go for E. Otherwise, I would also argue for A
