I would choose C

modest rennaissance-> somewhat of a rebirth

It goes on to say even though it was less proftable before which means it existed before may be both more and less.

C says that exactly

The rest of the choices we have to make a lot of assumptions which is not ok for a inference question like this. We must be able to refer back to the passage and confirm the right answer. Same applies to must be true questions.

The answer will most likely be a rephrase of one or more premises or logical deduction from the premises

A is incorrect, coz there is a difference between 'to win' and 'to handle'.
If its 'to win' in last sentence that made you go for A, then its incorrect.
I hope its clear now.
