Increases in the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in the human bloodstream lower bloodstream-cholesterol levels by increasing the body’s capacity to rid itself of excess cholesterol. Levels of HDL in the bloodstream of some individuals are significantly increased by a program of regular exercise and weight reduction.
Which of the following can be correctly inferred from the statements above?
(A) Individuals who are underweight do not run any risk of developing high levels of cholesterol in the bloodstream.
(B) Individuals who do not exercise regularly have a high risk of developing high levels of cholesterol in the bloodstream late in life.
(C) Exercise and weight reduction are the most effective methods of lowering bloodstream cholesterol levels in humans.
(D) A program of regular exercise and weight reduction lowers cholesterol levels in the bloodstream of some individuals.
(E) Only regular exercise is necessary to decrease cholesterol levels in the bloodstream of individuals of average weight.

Nowhere in the passage is mentioned that the weight reduction and exercise are the most effective methods. It just says that "Levels of HDL in the bloodstream are increased by a program of regular exercise and weight reduction" .. And that too, according to the passage, applies to "Some individuals".

Moreover, the passage does not mention any other methods to increase the levels of HDL. So (c) is definitely out of scope. (D) looks perfect.

(D) perfectly retrace the path of conditional diagram that can be made by using premises. Whereas (C) goes beyond the scope as stated by Mani in the above post.

Hence choose (D).

C is wrong because it says "the most effective methods"
and the question stem says
"some individuals"

Please read the chapter-6 of LSAT Powerscore CR Bible. You can find a soft copy at esnips.

It's difficult to explain in terms of text as it contains arrow and cross notations, otherwise I would have explained here only.

I'd say C, but I'm afraid more because of my intuition than any logic.
