Profile eval!

Hi,

I'm a recent graduate from FSU with a degree in economics and two minors, business and communications. I have a pretty low GPA, 2.661. I got Cs in most of my major classes. I dropped one class sophomore year (Business calculus) and failed financial accounting (retook it and passed over the summer) and managerial accounting junior year (did not pass). I changed my major quite a few times (not sure if that matters, but it does show up on my unofficial transcripts). I've worked for a year and a half at my university and have held a few leadership positions, I was in Greek Life, and pretty involved. Schools I've been looking at for MBA include FSU, Alabama, UF, University of North Florida, Auburn, and Alabama at Birmingham, but I'm open to most schools in the south. At this point I would be hoping for a spring admission but I'm not sure if I'd rather do full time or part time, I guess whichever is easier to get in to. I haven't taken the GMAT yet but will soon and am hoping to get a pretty good score.

Would I be able to get in to any of those programs or is there anything I can do to be competitive? What should I be aiming for on the GMAT?

So first of all, you can overcome your low GPA. And the schools you mention should be within range if the rest of your profile looks good.

The first thing is of course the GMAT - you getting a high GMAT score will PROVE that things have changed and that you are academically capable, which is something the school will want to know.

And that's the first thing I suggest you work on.

It is a bit early for an MBA, as for the most part folks will have 3-5 years experience. So unless you have a great reason, my suggestion would be: work on your GMAT and on improving your profile (great work experience, strong volunteer work, etc.) over the next year, and then applying in 2017.
