Hi,

I am doing pretty well in sentence correction, get most of the answers correct but not by the right approach.I just read the question and choose the answer choice which sounds the best and it's most of the time correct. It's very hard for me to understand whether it's an independent clause/dependent clause or how many clauses/phrases are there in the problem.Kindly guide how to overcome this hurdle so that i can atleast identify how many/what kind of clause.

A clause, by definition, contains a subject and a verb. An independent clause can stand on its own as a complete sentence. Consider a simple example: "Dave is a teacher, and he enjoys classical music." "Dave is a teacher" could stand on its own as a complete sentence and is therefore an independent clause.

A dependent clause cannot stand on its own. For example, "Although Dave is tired, he will work late tonight." "Although Dave is a teacher" cannot stand on its own as a complete sentence, and is therefore a dependent clause.
