Singular - Plural Agreement

Hi,

I am not sure about " is " and " are " in the following context.

i.e. One house and a garage is/are awesome. (2x singular)
One house and two garages is/are awesome. (1x singular 1x plural)
Houses and garages is/are awesome. (2x plural)

A compound subject will take "are" as its verb, irrespective of whether the components of that compound subject are singular or plural.

The house and the garage are beautiful. (Subject = The house and the garage: plural)
The houses and the garages are beautiful. (Subject = The houses and the garages: plural)

However, one can also write, "Owning a house and a garage is rewarding." (Subject: Owning = singular)
