Should I retake the GMAT?

by swati1606 » Fri Dec 11, 2015 11:39 am
Hi All,

I took the GMAT today and scored a 730 (Q51/V37/IR7/AWA Pending).

I wanted to know if I should retake the test given that I plan to apply to only the top 10 B-Schools. Another reason why I am thinking about retaking the test is that my today's verbal score was the least that I have got compared to all other mock tests I wrote in the past. My verbal scores in MGMAT CATs have been in the range of 39-43.

A brief about my profile:
I am an Indian having a prior MBA equivalent degree from one of the top 10 b-schools in India.
Post MBA my work ex has been in Consulting and financial services - Consulting/Corp Strat/M&A
I have a total of 4.5 yrs of work ex.
I am an engineer by graduation from one of the top 10 engineering colleges in India.
My CGPA is decent: MBA CGPA - 3.5/4 and 81% marks in engineering

I would also like to know how soon should I retake the test if at all. I want to apply in R2 and with the deadlines approaching, I need to start working on my essays and arranging reccos too.

Thanks

Hard to see why you'd want to retake - 730 is an elite score, and you aced the quant. Better to spend that additional time thinking about how to craft your essays to capture what makes you a unique candidate.

Hi krtibdewal,

First off, a 730/Q51 is an outstanding score (it's well above the 90th percentile overall), so you should apply to any Business School that interests you. As such, a retest is probably unnecessary. Since you've planning to apply to some really competitive Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile.
