MBA Program Emails - "You're a competitor"

I have received some emails from a top MBA program saying that "I would fit in really well", " I would make a great addition", and "you stand out"....Are these for real or just marketing schemes to get me to apply / pay the application fee?

My GMAT score is well below their average (I plan on taking it again, but was surprised to get an email from this school) but the emails have made me question if I should go ahead and apply.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Yes, unfortunately those are largely marketing emails. Schools often buy email lists from places like GMAC that has your contact info and results on the GMAT, so they go after people they truly believe will be a good fit at the school. And maybe you would still be a good fit at the school. But it's important to cut through the marketing speak and figure out where you will be happiest and get the best education for your investment.
